Cruisin' Through the Cosmos

The second to last week at Camp was spent "in space".  We programmed a whole week of fun activities that all had to do with the universe.

We started Monday off with a game of elbow tag and then we went into clubs where I was in charge of Dance Club! Camp Adventure has their very own choreographed dance to a Shakira song called "Waka Waka" which I learned and then taught to the the five girls in my dance club! It turned out to be a very fun dance that me and the girls loved to do.  Later in the day we went to the church to do our indoor activities.  I got to work with the kids to make miniature hamburgers made from vanilla wafers, colored icing, and peppermint patties.
The wafers are the buns, and the yellow and red icing make up the ketchup and mustard!

I iced Miss KitKats face!

After the kids made their "alien burgers", I had them sit down and write down their recipe of what goes inside an "alien burger".  I got some pretty cute recipes full of alien guts, bugs, burnt rocket ship parts, and brain! The kids got very creative and they even drew pictures of their burgers along with aliens.  After we rotated our three times, and I ate enough frosting, we had snack and then headed back to the park.  The kids got to do free choice when we got back.  My group played Red Light, Green Light which was quite successful with the small amount of campers who played.  Other kids made alien hats out of tin foil that turned out really cute.  Camp was over before we knew it and we headed home for the night.
I went on a wild goose chase after Camp to find this magazine with my idol Demi Lovato on it!
Tuesday was pool day! Not very exciting! I'm sure I probably played with the kids, helped some of the little ones swim around, and got my tan on!

Wednesday was also pool day! I sat in between Alex and Finn the whole way up which was fun, but very sweaty! haha We made a music video and they played games on my phone.  They also both wanted to listen to music, so I sat in the middle while the earphone cords nearly choked me.  It was so worth it though because they are so funny! After our fun day at the pool, one of our little girls invited us to dinner with her step dad.  Miss Ali and the four of us went up to Grassy Key after Camp to enjoy some hamburgers and hot dogs.  Mia, our camper, then colored with Kristen and I.  We also enjoyed hearing stories from her step dad and Miss Ali about all of the crazy antics that occur in Marathon and the surrounding Keys. After dinner, we headed home for the night.

Thursday was a full day at Camp.  We started with a fun game of Woofall Ball with the kids while we had a parent of one of my older campers set up to do Tie Dying.  Once the kids were done with snack, we split up into clubs so that we could take turns tie dying our t-shirts.  Dance club went last for tie dying, so in between feeling terribly crappy with a cold, I taught the girls the rest of our dance.  After we finished with clubs, some of the kids still needed to color their shirts, so we opened up the playground and let the kids have free time while we rotated in and out of our stations to tie dye our own shirts.  I did some nice sunset colors with a pink peace sign in the middle! I was a little nervous as to how it was going to turn out though.  The tie dying took quite a while, so after lunch and doing some more, we got over to the church do get out of the heat.  I showed the kids how we could crush a soda can with just water and heat and the kids thought it was really cool.  If the kids behaved they got to take home the crushed can which they loved.

Here is a demo me and Julena did of the can crushing experiment I did with the kids.

After our rotating activities, we headed back to the park where I don't quite remember what we did, but I'm sure it was something fun and sweaty.

Friday I was still sick...
Miss Starburst caught me looking like death was upon me.

Fortunately the kids were pretty well behaved so it made it easier on my pounding stuffed head.  Since we tie dyed on Thursday, we let the shirts sit all night and then we got to rinse them out and hang them to dry on Friday! Each of the kids got to put on some gloves and take their rubber bands out before rinsing their shirt.  It took a while, but it was a nice change of pace for a Friday instead of going to the super hot Rotary Park.  After all the kids were done, we got to do Parent's Presents and the girls and I performed our Waka Waka dance!  The girls had so much fun doing the dance! As did I! After Parent's Presents, we surprised the kids with a trip to the Dolphin Research Center.  It was our second time going, so it was really fun to take the kids.  Unfortunately, they were bored because they too had all been to the DRC before.  Some of them really enjoyed it though, especially when they got to tell us all about the dolphins.  Also, Nikki's parents and sister were in town, so they got to come to the center with us as well.  We watched one of the dolphin shows before having to go inside due to a lightning warning.  Inside, we watched a 20 minute presentation on the birthing process of a dolphin...very informative for me, and very "disgusting" for the kids haha!  After the presentation, we went back outside to watch the final dolphin show where we saw a gigantic iguana!
Some of the girls being so well behaved!

After the final show, we headed back to the park to do closing and give the kids their completed tie dyed shirts.  They all turned out great and so unique for each kid which made them feel so special.

Once Camp was over, our yacht friends from Miami called and said they were on their way to Marathon to see us! In just a few hours they came down and we all went to the beach to hang out for a little bit before the sun went down.  It was great to see the boys and catch up. After the sun set, we went back to the condo and I made some mac and cheese while Robyn made her delicious, yet very spicy, cheesy hamburger dip. :)  Once we snacked for a little bit, we hit the town for about an hour (there's not much to do in Marathon) haha!

Me and Josh at the Hurricane!
Unfortunately, I was feeling more and more terrible everyday, so I was kind of a downer all night.  Once we got home from the bar though, me, Josh, Kristen and Andy Skyped with Julena for a good half hour! We used our wonderful microphone effects to change our voices.  It was so hilarious! It was the hardest I had laughed in a long long time.  Josh thought Julena was super funny which was also good! All around it was a fun night full of fun and good people.

Saturday morning we got up and we all went to breakfast at The Stuffed Pig! I got the french toast!! Sooo amazing! While we were at breakfast, we tried to decide on what we wanted to do. Josh really wanted to go scuba diving, but with my cold, I was told it wasn't safe for me to go, so that was out of the question.  Then, Josh said he wanted to go swimming, but he wanted to go to the pool in Key Largo....The pool we go to every week with the kids. Sooooo we went home, put our suits on and made our way up the road to Key Largo.  We couldn't believe we were making a trip on our day off to the pool we go to every week.  But....It was soooo worth it!! I got the nerve to do a back flip off the diving board! Everyone said to do a front flip, but I was never trained to do a front flip; instead, I have been trained to do back handsprings, so I stood on the end of the board, dipped down and pushed through my legs as I reached as far back as I could, just like all my tumbling coaches taught me.  When I landed in the water with all my limbs in place, I got so excited that I couldn't stop doing them.

Me and Josh showing off our back flip skills!

I even did one off the high dive, but I got a little scared and didn't flip the whole way around and smacked my legs pretty hard on the water haha!  Once we were all flipped out, we went to Wendy's to get some dinner! Then, we spontaneously went to a dive shop around the corner and Josh signed up to do a night dive while the rest of us tagged along to do night snorkeling.  I couldn't dive because of my cold, and the others didn't want to pay the expensive amount for just one dive! Even though we didn't get to go all the way down, we still saw the plankton light up and we even saw a gigantic grouper fish! Once we were done with our time in the ocean, I had to say goodbye to Josh.  He had a charter on Sunday, so he had to drive up to Miami! It was so much fun knowing him for the small time I did. He certainly made Miami memorable as well as our last full weekend in Marathon! Josh was a super nice guy that I will really miss!

Once we got back home, I turned on my music and fell fast asleep. Sunday, I spent all day sitting in a chair, watching TV, and working on my blog.  It felt so good to just relax and try to feel better.  I started watching last season of Hart of Dixie which by the way is AMAZING and you should all watch it haha! Alright! Only one week left to tell you about! It will be out soon! :)

Outrageous Olympic Week

During our wonderful weekend in Orlando, the Olympics started up, so our eighth week of Camp was planned perfectly. We had a whole week of Outrageous Olympics planned.

I'm really proud of my stick figures!

On Monday, we started the day off by getting into three small groups to make up team names for some of our mock Olympic games. Me and Miss KitKat combined our older kids and they came up with Team SkitKat for our team name. I also made up a little cheer, but I forget what it was. After we did that, we went down to the baseball field to do some Olympic Contests. We did a hula hoop contest, a shot put throw, a discus throw, and a hold your arms straight out contest. The kids had a lot of fun with it because they all like to compete and show off their different skills. After we finished up with the contests, we made our way to clubs where I was in charge of gymnastics club. I had about 12 girls in my club, and we started off on two balance beams at the park. I had the girls walk forward and backward on the beam before we moved onto handstands. The girls had such a blast learning how to do handstands; I don't know how many legs I held in the air while I told them how to fix their approach or to point their toes. It felt so good to be back in a coaching atmosphere. I really enjoyed it, just like I did for the 6 years that I coached. After lunch, we headed over to the Church to do our rotating activities where I was in charge of a game called Loose Caboose. It was fun, but a little difficult to do with the small number of kids I had and the place we did it, so I was flexible and came up with another couple games to play. Then we played a human version of the game Guess Who. That game is fun to play with the kids because they work on their observation skills, asking yes or no questions, and they don't have to run around to enjoy themselves. Once we were done at the Church, we went back to the park and played a game called Ultimate Keep Away that quickly just turned into football. After we finished up at Camp, we went back home to watch the Olympics and relax.

Tuesday was once again pool day. The bus ride up was nice because I got a seat all to myself, but the kids still chatted it up with me in the nearby seats. Other than that it was the same old thing, no poop, no diving board, no slides. I just watched the kids, did some handstands in one of the pools and soaked in the sun. After Camp, Jon and I watched the movie Hancock. I hadn't seen it in a while and I forgot how much I liked it. I must say though, that the highlight of my day was getting this message from my favorite little brother.
Later I found out that he sent it to Julena too....haha it's ok though because he still made me feel special!

Wednesday was a very funny and eventful day! It was our best Wednesday ever I think in Camp. The kids were so funny and goofy and very good at listening and behaving! In the morning, after snack, we had our very own Fear Factor for the kids. All the kids got to drink a fizzy drink surprise (lemon juice and 7up), eat mashed up bugs (baby food), and dig through slimy worms (cooked pasta) to find some jelly beans! It was the funniest event we have had at Camp I think. The kids thought the juice was nasty and they did the funniesst sour faces. One kid actually spit it out...on another girl on accident! But of course I couldn't contain my laughter and the girl got mad at me, but I think it was just because she is 13 and it embarrased her. Later she addmitted it was pretty funny. Unfortunatly, one of the kids really didn't like the baby food and he got a little sick! It didn't phase him though; he was up and running around about 5 seconds later.
We even gave the fizzy drink surprise a taste!
After we cleaned up our Fear Factor, we went into clubs and I worked my gymnasts on cartwheels. Some of them knew exactly what to do, so I helped them on form, but some had no clue, so I helped them get the basics. We also worked more on handstands, and forward rolls. One girl, Kayla, came on Wednesday saying that she was working nonstop on her handstand and she looked so good doing it. She improved soo much in just two days. She was so determined to get her cartwheel down, but she couldn't land one foot at a time and she was getting really frustrated. Now, what I learned (from my mom) is that when you have all the skills, but you still can't seem to get it to work is to get mad and that frustration will make all the skills happen and you'll be able to do the trick. So Kayla came up to me and said she couldn't land one foot at a time and if I could help her, and I told her to just get mad. Get so mad that you just kind throw your body, and she said, no I need help, and I said no I'm not going to help you, you have to get mad. Well that made her even more frustrated, and the next cartwheel she did was perfect. I turned to her with a big smile and said, "See I knew you could do it, you just needed to get mad!" She was so excited and continued to do cartwheels any chance she could get. At the Church I got to help the kids make Olympic Medals which was a super cool craft for them. They each got a couple strips of paper taped together to decorate and then I made them a tin foil medal in any shape they wanted. I made some good hearts, cirlces and even a star that looked more like an A than a star, but whatever haha I should get an A for creativity. haha Afterwards, we did some free choice for the kids, and I played Dead Cow with the kids. It's a fun little game where the kids do things, like dancing cow, basketball cow, driving cow, and then dead cow. Whoever is the last to sit down when I say dead cow is out. After we did that for a little while, we had snack, cleaned up, and headed back to the park where we played an awesome game called Dead Ant. It's just like freeze tag, but when you get tagged you have to lay on your back with your limbs up in the air and you can only be unfroze when four people grap each of your limbs. It quickly became me and Miss Starburst's favorite game because the kids loved to tag us and we were always laying on our backs. After we finished the game, we went in to do closing. It was probably my most favorite closing because now that we're coming to an end, the kids know all the words to the songs and one of our five year old boys Gabe sang every word of God Bless the USA....and YES I got it on video!! It is so cute; and even flashes to some of our older boys singing along too. I must say that it was one of the highlights of my day. Once we were done with Camp, we headed home for the night.

Thursday we told the kids we were going to The Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum in Key West, and...well the kids were not very happy about it. The older kids kept saying that it was soooo scary and horrible that we were taking them to it. So I was preparing myself for a traumatic experience like a haunted house, and I was trying to reassure the little ones that it wouldn't be scary. Once we got there, we had to stand outside for a little bit which was terrible because I think Key West is hotter than Marathon because there is no breeze, but eventually we got inside. I had a group of about 8 kids to walk through with including one of our 5 year olds who FREAKED out the minute we walked in. The older kids had psyched him out so bad that he wouldn't even go through, so Jimmy sat with him on a little bench while the rest of us all went through.

The tallest man in the world

Heath Ledger as the Joker made all from Rubics Cubes

A giant's shoes

Lips made from straws

A robot

This guy was attacked by a shark

I think this was a robot made of junk

We also went through this really cool spinny tunnel thing that was totally crazy cool, but the picture didn't really turn out :( After we finished playing in the dizzy machine thing, we made our way through the rest of the museum where we learned the mirror we were all doing silly faces in was a 2 way mirror where we then laughed at the kids who didn't realize it. It was pretty entertaining. Then we packed the kids up and headed to the Roller Rink. Because the museum took all of about 45 minutes, we had to kill a lot of time. We ended up doing ok. The kids enjoyed running around or playing board games. Once we were sweaty enough to sit on the hot bus, we went back to the park.

After Camp, me, Robyn and Nikki went on another night dive with Tilden's. I was a little nervous this time around because Jon wasn't going with us, but we rode over, grabbed his fancy diving watch and went to Tilden's to eat some dinner before going on the dive. It was an interesting dinner (I packed pretzel's and peanut butter). Since Finn's dad works at Tilden's, Finn was there and he decided to eat the majority of my dinner. I didn't mind because I wasn't all that hungry, and plus he was just so darn cute. After finishing our dinner we got on the boat and headed out to the reef. On the first dive, I did great! Didn't run out of air or get my hair stuck in my tank. The next dive was also a success except the moon was really bright, so we couldn't see the plankton light up as well. It was still so amazing though! I love diving! After the dives we rode our bikes home and fell fast asleep.

Friday, from what I remember.... we did our usual stuff. Blitz, park, Camp A presents and stuff like that. Later in the day though, we did some more Olympic Games. Miss KitKat and I set up a "track" with "hurdles" on it so the kids could run around and jump the hurdles. We just stacked up some small cones and they had a total blast leaping around them. It was one of the only times that they all stood so nicely in line waiting for their turn to try and jump them. I was so impressed that this simple of an activity lasted for about an hour. After Camp, we really wanted to go out to the Full Moon Party in Islamorada, but we had absolutely no way of geting there unless we wanted to pay a $120 cab ride! NO THANKS! So instead, we all sat outside and played cards for a couple hours. It ended up being really fun even though I still don't understand how to play the game haha!

Saturday we didn't have anything planned, so we grabbed out stuff and headed to the beach all day. I got to wear my new swim suit from KMart and we got a little friend which we named Feddy!

He's a little Hermit Crab that crawled all over my hand!

On Sunday morning, we woke up at 6am, grabbed our bicycles and rode all the way down to Pigeon Key which is a total of 6 miles. Once we got there, we sat down at the end of the bridge and watched the sunrise. It was so beautiful!

We rode down the old 7 mile bridge that is only about 3 miles long to Pigeon Key.
Nikki and I on our bikes

Once the sun was up, we hopped back on our bikes and made the terrible trip back going against the wind! :( But on our way back home, we stopped at my favorite breakfast place in the whole country called The Stuffed Pig. Robyn and I went a couple weeks before and we just had to take the other two girls because it's so delicious. I got the gravy pig again and ate every bite! Then we had to get back on our bikes and ride the 2 miles back home.
After we got home, we had riden a total of 12 miles. I felt so accomplished! It was one of the best feelings knowing that I really could do something if I put my mind to it. All the other girls took a nap once we got home, but I watched TV and worked on my blog. Once they woke up though, we went down to the pool at a hotel next to our condo. It was really relaxing. Afterwards, Robyn and I went to Sunday Funday at Sunset Grille for a couple of hours. It was such a relaxing weekend, but so memorable because of the people I was with.
Doing the Cotten Eye Joe at the pool!

Waiting for our taxi!
I am home now, so these blogs are getting more and more difficult to write. Not only because it was a few weeks ago, but it's sad to think that I will never get to see my kids again, nor will I get to see my best friends this summer until we find time and money to meet up. This experience is one that I will never forget because of all the wonderful people I met along the way. I will finish this blog no matter what, but it might take a few days. haha I am having a good time just hanging out with Julena and getting back in the groove of things. It's weird to me still that I don't have to get up tomorrow and go to Camp. Anyways....We're off to dinner and dancing so I will talk to everyone soon!

Orlando!!

Orlando was AMAZING!! The weather was great! It wasn't too hot, and when we had to stand in line for the rides there were always fans or just shade which was nice! We bought 2 day tickets so that way we could go to the Islands of Adventure on Saturday and Universal Studios on Sunday. The Islands of Adventure is an amusement park with different themed places.  The most popular and the one everyone wanted to go to was The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  Universal Studios is different locations, like L.A. and San Francisco, with rides and shows in the different areas.  Now, because the last blog was mostly words, this time I am going to switch it up and do a lot of pictures!! :)

Going up the escalator on our way into the park!! We were sooo excited!!

This is called Universal Walk (or something like that) where there are a ton of restaurants, shows, live music, clothing stores, and a movie theatre.  You walk through it before going to the 2 different parks.

Jenny and Forrest Gump!!

We got to the park right when it opened at 8am so that way we could beat the rush a little bit.

Our first stop was Harry Potter World! This part of the Island was Hogsmead.

The conductor of the train!

Some people from Harry Potter World!

They also sell this delicious icy beverage called ButterBeer.  It didn't have beer in it, but it looked like it because of the foamy top! It was very tasty like butterscotch...kinda!! haha

Us in front of the Hogwarts School/Castle....but the lady who took the picture didn't quite get the castle in the background!

So we took the picture again!!

We were all a little scarred to ride our first Roller Coaster that morning.  It was a Harry Potter one that was 2 dragons racing.  It went upside down and very fast! Luckily though, the line was very short, but we had to wait for them to add two more carts which was frustrating.  All in all though it was a fun ride.

The next Harry Potter ride we went on had about a 30 minute wait for it, but Kristen said it was worth the wait.  Especially because that was a short wait time compared to what we waited for later in the day. It was a really neat ride because while we were waiting, we were inside the Hogwarts school and there were live picture frames, and holograms of the characters talking to us.  There was also fake snow that fell onto the line before getting into the ride part.  Once we got to the front of the line, we hopped onto a moving conveyor belt and we sat down in our seat.  We whooshed off and started flying all around! It was by far one of the coolest rides I've ever been on.  There were movie scenes like we were flying and we tipped back and forth.  It was super cool!! Once we were done on the ride, we went through a couple of the shops before heading over to the Jurassic Park Island.

Rawr!

There was only one ride on the Jurassic Park Island, so we went on it! It was similar to the one in Hollywood, so we went down a big drop and got all wet!! It was awesome!!

Us in our not on purpose matching outfits! :)

After we were done at the Jurassic Park Island, we went to Toon Lagoon.  There were 2 water rides in the town, and we went on both of them and got SOAKING wet!! The first was a four person ride and I sat in the very front! It had some twists and turns and then a huge drop! It was awesome! The next was an 8 person ride, and we got more wet than I have ever gotten on a ride.  It was one of those rapid ones where we all sit in a circle and it spun while we splashed around, got squirted and rode under waterfalls.

Just hangin out!

After Toon Lagoon, we traveled to the Marvel Super Hero Island where we waited in the hour long line for the Spider Man ride! It was similar to the Harry Potter one.  We sat in a car and zoomed through New York; going up buildings, falling down at high speeds and nearly getting scorched by fire! It was really neat!
Soooo tired of waiting!!

But we got to wear cool 3D glasses! Spidey vision!! haha

Then we stopped for Pizza!! mmm

Before leaving Super Hero Island, we went on the Hulk ride which was super scary because it was really slow and then BAM super fast! haha But it was fun and awesome! After Super Hero Island we traveled to ...

We rode a Cat In the Hat Ride!

Thing 1, Mr. Cat, Thing 2

Dr. Seuss Carousal

Me on my long necked creature!

We found a sign that said Moose Juice and it reminded us of a Camp song! I can sing it for you when I get home :)

After Suess' Landing, we made our way back to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to ride the cool Harry Potter ride one last time!

I am so glad we did because, even though we had to wait forever, we got stuck on the ride.  Now most people would be like, "Janise, why were you happy to get stuck on the ride?" BECAUSE!! I got stuck on a ride for the first time haha and it was neat because we were kinda tipped forward and staring at this blank screen below us.

Looking a little crazy getting stuck!

Once we were done at the park, we decided to eat at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville Restaurant.  It was funny because we at the Porch of Indecision because we are literally the most indecisive group of girls I have EVER met! I think our most famous line of this summer is "I don't care" haha So it seemed perfect to eat here.

I had a strawberry margarita and a sirloin steak with Hawaiian butter (yum) and mashed potatoes! It totally hit the spot! There was also a guy singing and strumming his guitar! It was a very relaxing dinner after such a long day.

When we were done at dinner, we went to leave, but we saw some people dancing and a DJ playing, so we decided to stick around for "a few minutes" to rest our feet and people watch.  Well...a few minutes turned into a few hours.  We ended up staying for quite a while! We danced, sang, Robyn and I competed in a hula hoop contest, and I judged a dance competition! It was so much fun and we didn't even plan it!

Me and Nikki shaking our groove thangs!

Tall stilt guy!

It was a tough job judging the dance contest!

The next day, we traveled back to Universal and went to Universal Studios Florida!
At the front entrance!

Our first stop was this super gigantic roller coaster.  You go straight up and then straight down! SCARY! But you got to pick your own song to listen to while you ride and it video tapes you the whole time! It was fun, and scary, but hilarious to watch the video! (Sorry I didn't spend an arm and a leg to buy it!)

The going up part of the coaster!

Our next stop was Shrek 4D

We got cool Shrek vision glasses!

Hard to see, but on the left are the 3 little pigs, Pinocchio in the middle (he's upside down) and on the Dragon Cam, is Gingy on the table! All of them came to life and tried to warn us about the adventure we were about to go on. We then went inside a big theatre where we watched a 4D movie of what happened in between Shrek and Shrek 2! It was really cute and an awesome experience because I totally LOVE Shrek! :)

Then we went across the way and waited just about forever for the Despicable Me 4D experience! It was worth the wait though because it was a really cool ride.  It was a cross between Shrek and Spider Man.  The seats lifted up and moved more than the Shrek ride, but it was a movie like Shrek!

Kristen and I in our Minion hats!

A Minion size door!

Nikki and I dancing with a real life minion! :)

After we were done with the 4D stuff, we made our way across the park to the ET ride.  We got first class treatment and got to go in the back way because we were waiting for Robyn to get back from the bathroom and the guys must of wanted to not see us wait another 15 minutes, so he took us in the back way and we got front row seats. It was just like I remembered when I went on the ride in Hollywood a while ago.

On our way through the park, we saw the Mystery Machine....

and Marilyn Monroe!

We also walked through "San Francisco" before going on our final ride! We went on the indoor roller coaster for The Mummy Returns! It was really cool! It went backward, forward, the ceiling lit on fire, and things popped out and scared us! It was also in the DARK! It was super cool....probably my second favorite ride!

Well! After the Mummy Ride, we headed out of the park and headed back to Marathon! It was a great trip and I am so glad all the girls decided to go to Orlando because I really wanted to go! Now....here in Marathon, the kids LOVE to sing the new hit song "Call Me Maybe" and we have all become obsessed with it....so we made a music video in the car of us singing it with an app on my phone.  It is pretty funny and really expresses all of our personalities! Soo....here it is for everyone to see it...unless you've already seen it on Facebook haha

We also saw the sunset over the ocean as we drove home...This is a view I will miss....

So ...that is my weekend in a nutshell! :) I hope everyone is having a great time like me...Right now I only have 9 days of Camp left and 1 Sunday left! Sooo weird! Anyways! I hope you enjoyed seeing all my pictures...I know there are probably some more that I will steal from the other girls and show ya'll later! :)
